WMC Lab Accredited, Recognized for Excellence
The Weirton Medical Center laboratory has been awarded an accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent on-site inspection.
Lisa Brancazio, M.D., laboratory medical director, and David Michetti, director of ancillary services, were advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the “excellence of the services being provided.” The Weirton Medical Center laboratory is one of the more than 6,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide.
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff’s qualifications, the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for the laboratory’s patients.
Dr. Brancazio said that she is very pleased with the accreditation and special recognition for excellence. “The accreditation process is very rigorous. David Michetti and the laboratory staff deserve credit for the outstanding accreditation results,” she said.
David Michetti thanked the staff for their hard work in not only preparing for the accreditation review, but in maintaining high standards through out the year. “I am very proud of the staff. This is quite an honor and a deserving recognition for their efforts,” he said.
Joseph P. Endrich, M.D., Weirton Medical Center president and CEO, congratulated Dr. Brancazio, David Michetti and the laboratory staff for the accreditation results. “Our patients and medical staff can be assured that Weirton Medical Center has one of the finest laboratories anywhere as demonstrated by the CAP accreditation and recognition for excellence,” he said.
