Cardiac Cath/Angioplasty/Stenting
Since May of 2002, Weirton Medical Center, in conjunction with Pittsburgh’s West Penn Hospital, has provided expanded cardiology services to the community through the establishment of a PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) Program with off-site surgical backup. Patients that require coronary intervention (angioplasty or stenting) and meet the established guidelines are able to have their procedure completed at Weirton Medical Center by their local cardiologist.
Since less than 2% of PCI patients require emergency heart surgery during their procedure, you will probably be home in 24 to 48 hours. However, those rare patients who need specialized heart care will be transported immediately to the Western Pennsylvania Hospital, recently ranked as one of the nation’s top 100 hospitals for intensive care. At West Penn’s Cardiovascular Institute, a team of heart specialists with years of experience performing nearly 1000 open-heart surgeries each year will be waiting.
